Maybe that is the reason why you never experienced this fault. I have tried to reproduce the problem quite often to find out what the reason is. Therefore, I have got quite a high number of these events. I do not know whether the other attributes (like seek errors) are related to this.
If your drive never had a "Free Fall Event" this could also never interfere with the kernel.
