This is also the case in Intrepid. It happens when (un)mounting both USB-stick and memorycard.
Steps to reproduce: 1) Minimize all windows 2) Insert removable media (USB-stick, memorycard, etc) 3) Watch the desktop icons disappear while nautilus is restarting Usually I get a nautilus-window, showing the media's content, but this does not happen anymore.
