Chris,

I'm running the 32 Bit version of Ubuntu 8.10.

**** "You said that System Sounds work..."* - I may not have communicated
clearly in my last e-mail. I do NOT have system sounds nor sounds from
other applications. I installed "Chromium" which had no sound. Not even a
beep. The volume settings within the game were set to default levels. The
video for the game was very choppy (something else for me to investigate
later).

I've attached a screen shot of Chromium.

**** "Have you tried the other devices that are present by opening
gnome-volume control and dropping the box down to other discovered devices?"
* - Yes. I have tried combinations of all the devices but there are so
many that I really do not understand what I'm looking at. For example,
there is System>Preferences>Sounds which gives some options for controlling
volumes and then there is the "Volume Control's Preferences" (RMB on speaker
icon, select "Preferences") that also has its own volume controls. I've
attached a screen shot named "Volume-Controls.png" of both of these windows
open. As a noob user I find these multiple settings most confusing.

Also, from within the Volume Control window, there is a list of all the
other devices available on my machine. I have also attached a screen shot
named "Volume Controls Options.png" showing these devices. This too is
confusing to me because I only have one soundcard on my machine (right?).
Why then do all these different devices show up and which one is the one I
should be using?

**** "If you run: alsamixer -Dhw is the PCM set at a reasonable level."* -
Yes. The levels are maxed out. See the attached image, "alsamixer
-Dhw.png".

I am happy to help and debug this with you. Please let me know if I can do
anything else.

Best Regards,

Mike
