I too own an Aspire 5003 and am experiencing the same problem; it appears to
get worse over time. Anyway a temporary fix is to change the Device section of
xorg.conf as so:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) SiS Default Card"
# Driver "sis"
Driver "vesa"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
The vesa driver however leaves you in 800x600. I hope a solution to this
problem is found soon and will update if I find anything. Note: This also puts
my screen at a weird 61Hz though there does not appear to be a problem with
that on my screen at least. Problem is definitely in the sis driver.
