Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nv

Version: 1:2.1.10-1ubuntu2

(Can't seem to use ubuntu-bug, reporting by hand)

The nv driver has never automatically detected my widescreen flat planel
display (LiteView LM15W) properly, but I've always been able to work around
that by generating an xorg.conf, usually with displayconfig-gtk. However, in
intrepid I discovered this no longer worked.

On further investigation, it seems the old nv driver in hardy concocts a
different
mode from that supplied in the EDID info, but at least it works. The nvidia
(closed-source) driver seems to use the EDID info with no problems on both
hardy and intrepid. I'm using an integrated graphics chipset which claims to
be:

00:05.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation C51G
[GeForce 6100] [10de:0242] (rev a2)

(Full lspci output is attached.)

The EDID data for the native resolution / mode is:

Mode "1280x800" # vfreq 59.969Hz, hfreq 48.935kHz
        DotClock 68.900000
        HTimings 1280 1301 1333 1408
        VTimings 800 804 808 816
        Flags "-HSync" "-VSync"
EndMode

Even when explicitly inserting this into the xorg.conf in intrepid with the nv
driver, however, the monitor reports that it is displaying "1024x768 at 45.2kHz
(H), 55.5Hz (V)", even though the Xorg.log seems to show that the driver thinks
it is using the higher resolution.

edid, lspci, xorg.conf and Xorg.log info attached.
