I've attached the second round of results. Looking at the pstree files, laptop-mode-tools uses hdparm -B 128 and hdparm -S 12 to set the power management settings of the harddrive. The 128 value for hdparm -B should override any hdparm -S value and disable spindown (perhaps just keep an hdparm -S value of 0 according to the man page). According to the man page for hdparm, hdparm -B 1 through 127 allow spindown while hdparm -B 128 through 254 disable spindown, so I would expect that no matter what -S value is sent, hdparm should disregard it, which is currently not the case.
