This bug also happens to me. I am attaching my Xorg.0.log here. The log includes log entries after four Ctrl+Alt+F<n> strokes (n = 1..6). Stroke #1 is the first attempt to switch to a VC (virtual console). It failed in the following way: the corresponding virtual console (VC) appeared for a split second, but then the X screen reappeared. If this happens, retrying it (stroke #2) immediately always succeeded. Stroke #3 also failed: it took place several minutes apart (I have no idea about the exact time interval) from the strokes #1 and #2. Stroke #4, a retry of stroke #3, also succeeded. In brief, after one failure, other following attempts would succeeded if they are closely spaced. But then if we don't switch to any VC for a period of time (maybe several minutes), then attempting to switch to one of the VCs would "fail" as I descibed above.
