Hi guys! Michal> Yes, SiS sucks. If I had money, I would buy another machine...
Anyway, I just downgraded to hardy version of xorg, and everything runs fine (see http://dailyvim.blogspot.com/2008/12/ubuntu-downgrading- xorg.html)! No trash on screen, full resolution 1280x800, pure happiness. A few notes: I am convinced that this bug is NOT Ubuntu specific. I tried OpenSUSE 11.1 Live CD and it behaves EXACTLY the same as in Intrepid. Also this bug is know to Gentoo guys (http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=240248). This summary table is quite self-explanatory: http://packages.gentoo.org/package/x11-drivers/xf86-video-sis . It seems to me like incompatibility of sis driver and new X server... Prior to downgrade I tried to compile sis driver myself (10.0 and 10.1), but the resulting driver was always buggy like the one in intrepid (even the newest version 10.1: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg/2008-December/041752.html). I believe that intrepid uses 10.0 and hardy 9.3). I was not able to compile 9.3 version with intrepid. By the way, there is not a single complaint about this bug at xorg forum, maybe we should speak to them there (http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg/). Cheers, Tom PS: Bring the fun back to computing! ;-) -- Intrepid - SIS video snow/fuzz https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/264769 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
