Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: python-vm-builder
/var/log/vmware/hostd.log shows this error at the time matching when
apt-get was run I'm not sure if it was the unpacking or the setting up
step.

I didn't have logging enabled on that vm, but I did on another vm:

A log file is available in "/tmp/vmware-root/7184.log". Please request support
and include the contents of the log file. it to VMware support, select Help >
About and click "Collect Support Data". You can also run the "vm-support"
script in the Workstation folder directly.

But that lot file /tmp/vmware-root/7184.log shows nothing since the vm was
booted.
I finally found this in the log:
[2008-12-30 11:01:30.836 'vm:/var/lib/vmware/Virtual
Machines/HomeServer/HomeServer.vmx' 1105754448 info] Question info: The
virtualization capability of your processor is already in use. Disable any
other running hypervisors before running VMware Server.

So I'm guessing it is KVM loading itself.
...
and it is KVM loading. after removing kvm and kvm_intel kernel modules, my
vmware machines were able to start.
I'll file a bug with KVM instead of here.
** Affects: vm-builder (Ubuntu)
