Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.27-9-generic
I have a Sony VAIO VGN-FZ31E. The integrated network card is a Intel
Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] according to lspci.
The driver for this card is iwlagn.
I am using Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10, with all updates for 31 December.
On the front of the laptop is a killswitch for turning off the Wifi and
Bluetooth connections.
When I pull the switch to "OFF", the LEDs go out and the bluetooth and wifi
chips stop working. Everything works great until now.
But NetworkManager doesn't seem to notice this. After a couple of seconds, it
says "Network connection disconnected" but when I click the icon, it still
shows the header "Wireless Networks", of course without any networks. When I
try to manually connect to a network, it spins and spins before telling me the
operation has failed.
And when I turn it to "ON" again, it can take more than 5 minutes before NM
tries to refresh it's list of networks and I become connected again. The iwlist
command in the command line gives me the correct networks way before NM does
this. It should refresh earlier, right after the killswitch is pulled back
again or there should be a manual refresh.
Dmesg output when turning the switch off and on with a 15 second
interval.

They both have a lot of information about the USB bluetooth adapter, but none
about my wireless card.
My guess is that I have to add some sort of *.fdi file in
/usr/share/hal/fdi/information/
I grep'ed all files and there is no single mention if iwlagn, but there are
ofkillswitches for iwl4965 and others...
If you need anymore information, just let me know.
Thank you very much.
