I have exactly the same problem and it is quite annoying. If i set-up
the computer for people who does not handle the computers so well it is
hard to explain that in this nice new version have explicitly connect
the network....

The wifi signal is stable and when it is selected manually it always
connect.

The AP is set to not advertise the ESSID - so the network is hidden on
iwlist scanning, however the profile should try out if it is there is no
network currently connected and this wi-fi network is set up to auto-
connect (it worked well before, in the kde-3 version of
knetworkmanager).
