Addendum to previous note: Got myself a working system by doing the following steps via another computer (moving the memory stick over and editing its contents):
Removing S30gdm in /etc/rc2.d Adding the following lines to rc.local: apt-get install ssh <<EOF Y Y Y EOF (probably just one "Y" would have been enough, but what the heck...) After next reboot, the sshd got installed, and the server now has port 22 open for remote access. (Naturally, the apt-get command above was removed from rc.local as first thing after remote login.) This leaves the box without console access, but as this is used as a displayless server in my case, that is not so bad right now - just makes debugging of any future boot errors a bit harder. But for the time being, I have Jaunty alpha 2 up and running on VIA EPIA EN1200EG and can progress with other testing. Summary: looks like whatever GDM does seems to break Jaunty big time on VIA display HW. -- Jaunty alpha 2 black screen after ubuntu progress bar https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/310301 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
