Canon PIXMA iP3000 is only supported since gutenprint 5.2
If your are using Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy) you should be able to install the
gutenprint 5.2 distribution-independent driver package from openprinting.org:
http://openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Canon-PIXMA_iP3000
Upgrading to Ubuntu Intrepid or later should also give you gutenprint 5.2.
Please reopen if this is still an issue after gutenprint upgrade.
