Chris, thank you for your comment. I read through some other threads and understood that this was indeed correct behavior for remote sessions. However, I was at the specific server's console at the beginning of the week and I still couldn't unlock the applications. I have the same behavior on a VirtualBox running Ubuntu Server 8.04.1, I'm guessing that that also qualifies as a local console, right? I'm not at the real server's console anymore, but I took the liberty of running the commands of your previous post on the virtual server.
Both ck-list-sessions and polkit-auth --show-obtainable had no output. dbus-send --system --dest=org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit --type=method_call --print-reply /org/freedesktop/ConsoleKit/Manager org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit.Manager.GetCurrentSession gave Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Glib.UnmappedError.CkManagerError.Code0: Unable to lookup session information for process '4997' I also tried setting the org.freedesktop.systemtoolsbackends.set property to Admin Authentication for Anyone, Console and Active Console to no avail, but they might need other values to work?
