Hi, sorry to to answer so late but I'm in exam. -the version of xev i use is the one by default in ubuntu 8.10 -and yes, when i ran xev, there was no output in the terminal. -when i go to System ---> Preferences ----> Keyboard Shortcuts it is the same, nothing for that particular button, but the othe multimedia button work fine.
I dunno if there is any other thing I can try ?
