Sorry for all the confusion regarding this issue. I finally got 8.10 to
load on my Inspiron by adding "acpi=off" to the boot options. I still
have issues with my wireless card which first appeared during a system
update which I later rolled back. Apparently, the inability to use my
Linksys wireless network card has carried over to the new version of
Ubuntu. The card seems to be able to see my wireless router (I have
SSID broadcast turned on) but I am unable to establish a connection. I
also have my wireless set for no security (I'm out in the sticks so that
is not an issue right now).

If I do upgrade from Heron to Ibex it would be done using the update
manager. If I do this, would it maintain my current drivers thus
maintaining my wireless connectivity? If not, I will remain on Heron.
