What about cases where the 254 setting causes the hard drive to become very warm? On my laptop an hdparm value of 254 causes the hard drive to reach temperatures of around 50°C which is too high. Disabling laptop- mode allows the drive to operate in its normal range somewhere between 41-45. But then it suffers from the unload cycles. Is there another solution to this?
