There are several things to try.
First, try: amixer set 'External Amplifier' off
If sound is still inaudible, revert your change (unmute it).
Next, try: amixer set 'Master Surround' 80%,on && amixer set 'Spread Front to
Surround and Center/LFE' on
If sound is still inaudible, revert the change to 'Spread Front to Surround and
Center/LFE' only.
Next, try: amixer set 'Exchange Front/Surround' on
