Thanks for submitting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better! Can please provide us with a couple of details?
What version of ubuntu are you currently running? Can you please attach a .txt file containing the output of: sudo aptitude show update-manager ? Can you please attach a .txt file containing the output of: sudo aptitude show synaptic ? Can you reproduce this by redoing certain commands? Can you list those commands here? Can you also please have a look at this link: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/synaptic/+question/12093 You will find the fix in this post, if the issue matches your experience. We might need to change the package from update-manager to synaptic. In the link I pasted above if you want to follow what nicholas said worked for him you could run this command in a terminal to pull down the debian-package-database-rebuild script: wget http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/reference/examples/debian- package-database-rebuild chmod +x debian-package-database-rebuild && sudo ./debian-package- database-rebuild. Please use these commands with caution and make sure you backup your important data in case something happens out of the ordinary. Hope this helps.
