I experienced this problem, too, using the same setup. Installing Pulseaudio 0.9.13 fixed it for me (there is a Jaunty-Backport for Intrepid here: https://launchpad.net/~racb/+archive ). Before installing it, please understand that installing from an external package-source is on your own risk.
