Some of the above posters have said they have the same problem, but then describe a hard lockup.
I also have a Dell Inspiron 6000 running Intrepid- and it was following the OP's behavior to a T. It's not a total freeze, but gnome-panel mostly locks up: --Menus will be highlighted, but doesn't register clicks. After you click, and move the mouse out of the hotspot, the menu continues to register as a highlighted menu, however it does not display any of the contents. --Launchers can be clicked --When a program opens, it does not register keyboard or mouse, except when I double click the title bar to max/reduce. It does still max/reduce. --Windows cannot be resized, or moved, only max/reduced. Opening a term does no good, as you cannot input into it. At first I thought it was a gnome-panel bug, based on the menu highlighting stuff, now I think it's more broad. I'm rather new to linux, so I don't have the logs and whatnot readily available, as I'm not exactly sure which files are useful for this. OF NOTE: I think it is also important to note that it was doing this straight out of the box. I installed off of the Live CD available on ubuntu.com. Before I could make a single system change, it had done this. I had to hard restart to get back in. It then proceeded to do it's massive software update, which I thought would fix this problem. It did not. It continues to be entirely random, from when I'm switching windows, launching applications, just sitting around -- I also have not found a pattern. Sometimes ctrl+alt+bkspc works, other times it requires a hard boot. As a fresh linux user, I would love for this to be remedied! Let me know what I can provide to help the community. It happens at least twice a day. -- Random freezes completely lockup system in Intrepid, inspiron 6000 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/292751 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
