Darren, Thanks for the tip. I have a T61, nVidia Corporation Quadro NVS 140M (rev a1) and Hardy Heron. I used these guides to update the NVidia drivers:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5936769 http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-940862.html And I did notice a bit of a difference. Not being satisfied I pursued a way to get the latest compiz update via this easy guide: http://tombuntu.com/index.php/2008/07/25/upgrade-to-the-latest-compiz- fusion-release/ I wasn't convinced that it was behaving they way it did when I first installed Hardy when the computer was very new. I realized that the the CPU freq scaling was not behaving they way I *told* it do. I set it to high and it was not obeying. Determined to get this fixed, I found this article: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=868378 Then I realized that I've had issues with the fan and overheating on my previous laptop a T60p. I used a compressed air can to blow the dust out of the cpu heat sink on the back left and rear left. I also installed the thinkpad fan control: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/How_to_control_fan_speed Now, I think I've got a good handle on all the performance all around! The cpu freq scaling behaves the way I tell it to and most all my effects are happy! :) HTH, Mike -- [Hardy] Xorg high CPU usage with 2.6.24 kernel and nvidia-glx https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/178400 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
