Then I re-installed nvidia driver 177 and it still works, consistently. That is strange even if the problem is not graphics related, isn't it? Now I have tried a VNC session over 10 times between reboots and it has not crashed at all, no matter whether the mouse pointer is outside or inside the eventual VNC window.
