I installed via Synaptic in Ubuntu 8.10, and I am also using an AMD64.

My import dialog matches the screenshot provided. I was unable to drag
and drop audio files from Nautilus to the import dialog.

I am able, however, to drag and drop directly onto the Ardour multitrack
interface without opening the import dialog. This converts and copies
the audio file into the project folder. So, embedding is not possible
while this bug is not resolved.

One other problem I had was that the audio file is stored on an external
USB hard disk, and when attempting to import via the method detailed
above I am given the error message:

[ERROR]: Import: cannot open input soundfile
"/media/SimpleDrive/Record/flute.16.09.2008/TRK1-0`"

The name of the audio file is "TRK1-02.wav", whereas in the error
message it is described as "TRK1-0`".

Copying the file onto the internal hard disk before attempting to import
solves the problem in this case. Ardour will import just fine when the
file is on an internal disk, but not when it is on my external USB hard
disk.

I'll keep watching this thread for any updates.

Thanks!

James
