Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it without more information.
Please include /var/log/xorg.0.log and lspci -vvnn (v v n n) as separate
attachments. Since you are unable to see the desktop, you can do this
using a tty terminal (Ctrl+Alt+F2). With the live cd, you may be able to
get to a desktop using F4 - Safe Mode.
