The problem really appears to be that gfxboot isn't being used. When I
boot in qemu to slow things down, I can see gfxboot appearing for a
split-second and then apparently giving up and dropping back to
syslinux's menu. I assume that this is something to do with running from
syslinux rather than isolinux.
