My reasons for removing:

GSnes9x --> It is just a GTK frontend for old snes9x versions which is not
needed anymore because Snes9x 1.51 has its own GTK+ UI.

snes9xpress --> This project was abandoned apstream in 2004:
http://www.linuxgames.com/snes9express/ And it is based on an old Snes9x
version (1.42 insted of 1.51).

Both are old GTK frontends which would be replaced by a much more
complete GTK+ version.

Sticking to ZSNES and leaving the Snes9x cruft as it is, is no option
for the future since ZSNES will abandon its self written assembler
interface and will switch to a QT-only interface. Which would leave
GNOME people to install the whole QT framwork to have a more or less
current Super Nintendo emulation in place.
