Hi thanks for the reply

Ok here goes: I have had a good look now and I think I have a better
understanding of what it does when the error occurs!

Path to music folder...

The folder that contains the music is called PiersMusic: The path =
/media/Media/PiersMusic

next...

/media/Media/PiersMusic/The Cure - Complete Discography - 29 CDS
[1979-2004][MP3] The name of the folder is = The Cure - Complete
Discography - 29 CDS [1979-2004][MP3]

Next folder after the above is called = The Cure - Pornography [Deluxe
Edition] 2CD [2005][320][MP3] and the path =
/media/Media/PiersMusic/The Cure - Complete Discography - 29 CDS
[1979-2004][MP3]/The Cure - Pornography [Deluxe Edition] 2CD
[2005][320][MP3] and once again the folder is called = The Cure -
Pornography [Deluxe Edition] 2CD [2005][320][MP3]

Next, inside the above folder are TWO folders called......

The Cure - Pornography [Deluxe Edition] CD1 With its path =
/media/Media/PiersMusic/The Cure - Complete Discography - 29 CDS
[1979-2004][MP3]/The Cure - Pornography [Deluxe Edition] 2CD
[2005][320][MP3]/The Cure - Pornography [Deluxe Edition] CD1

The Cure - Pornography [Deluxe Edition] CD2 With its path =
/media/Media/PiersMusic/The Cure - Complete Discography - 29 CDS
[1979-2004][MP3]/The Cure - Pornography [Deluxe Edition] 2CD
[2005][320][MP3]/The Cure - Pornography [Deluxe Edition] CD2

This will produce the error most definitely! Also when I select all the
files in the left pane and tell it to "Append To Playlist" it refuses
point blank to put them in the correct order i.e. 1 to 10 but instead
mixes them up in random order... go figure! Once the first track is
playing it will jump to the next track fine and play it without any
problems but try to change the track manually and the error occurs [bad
character range] then when you click OK it stops the track playing!

Hope that this is a better description of the problem! Once again thanks
for the reply, I appreciate your help!

Piers

Thank You,

John Piers Cilliers

Subject: [Bug 316074] Re: Exaile cannot play songs that are housed in folders
that have [] square brackets in the name!

I can't reproduce this. I've created the exact same directories and
filename as the testcase "/home/tsharitt/Music/Awake [asdf]/01. Sick of
Life.mp3" and the Files panel shows it just fine. I haven't tried
importing that file to the library, but my own library has files/dirs
with [ and ] in them, which are correctly imported.

Status in Exaile: Incomplete
Status in “exaile” source package in Ubuntu: Confirmed

Bug description:
To whom it may concern. (Sorry that I'm so formal!)

I had to put "I don't know" because there was no option for it!

What I discovered was that in the Folder Name (One down in the path) where the
songs are kept, or a song that has square brackets in the name
"song[remix].mp3" causes the problem! Change the square bracket for the folder
or song to: "song(remix).mp3" and no problem!
All of these need to be changed to eliminate the error! Once you have loaded
the songs into Exaile and start the first song playing a box pops up and the
message that it gives you is: :bad character range" The song is playing but as
soon as you click on the OK button on the error box it stops the track playing.
So it goes without saying that it becomes a problem when you have to restart
after each song!

This is an example of the folder name: The Cure - Pornography [1982][320][MP3]
> "The Cure - Pornography [Deluxe Edition] CD1" causes the problem where:The
Cure - Pornography (1982)(320)(MP3) > "The Cure - Pornography (Deluxe Edition)
CD1" does not!

I am using Exaile Ver 0.2.14 My OS is Ubuntu 64 Bit 8.10

Thank you
Piers
