I have never seen this before.

You can try the following:

 1. install scim-bridge-client-gtk and all its dependencies
 2. make sure you enabled complex character support for your language in
language-selector
 3. log out to activate your changes
 4. after log in open a terminal and issue the following command:
  im-switch -l
  It should report 'scim-bridge' as being used. If it doesn't:
  im-switch -s scim-bridge
