I can’t run compiz because of Xinerama, so that’s off. It’s just
straight metacity.
I actually don’t have a screensaver per se. Rather, I have this
problem when I unlock my screen from the Gnome screen blanker.
The mouse doesn’t matter — I’ve swapped my mouse for another USB mouse
and the problem still occurred.
I haven’t had time to make a new test user account. (Though that
being said, I first experienced this when I installed 8.10 and pretty
much had a virgin system.)

Quite the opposite. I *can* see the mouse pointer and move it among
my screens, but nothing reacts to it. (That is, clicks don’t work,
focus follows mouse doesn’t work, and mouse overs don’t work.)

After some investigation, I agree. I think the gdk_drawables are just
coming from Firefox.
In the weeks since I first reported this bug, I’ve had the same
problem happen when I was actively using the computer. Could this be
a duplicate of Bug 41301?
