I think this is still a bug, not Wishlist. It should be possible to get to the sound preferences though the System->Setting menu, instead of (or as well as) through the volume control panel applet, which is the only way to do this currently. Also, in the panel applet the button is labelled "Volume Control...", *not* "Sound Preferences" ( see bug #317360 )
