** Description changed:
After an hardy-to-intreprid upgrade, startup fails, prompting to
continue in low-graphics mode (but the ATI radeon 9200 SE graphic card
still displays the correct high resolution...)

dkms reports that fglrx is installed, although I am not requesting to use it
in my new xorg.conf :
$ dkms status
fglrx, 8.543, 2.6.22-14-generic, i686: installed (original_module exists)
fglrx, 8.543, 2.6.27-7-generic, i686: installed
Synaptic reports that
- linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-14-generic
- linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-21-generic
- fglrx-kernel-source (2:8.543-0ubuntu4)
- fglrx-modaliases (2:8.543-0ubuntu4)
- xorg-driver-fglrx (2:8.543-0ubuntu4)
were installed.
I finally "resolved" this problem by removing all of this 5 packages.
