Everyone, double check that this is really a bug and not a setting
error. I am using a dell inspiron 1420 with ubuntu 8.10 (intrepid),
kernel 2.6.29, and at first the internal mic did not work. However,
doing the following in the sound settings fixed this problem:
start the volume control applet, bring it up
open preferences, turn on digital input source and input source, along with
capture
set digital input source=digital mic 1
input source = front mic
make sure capture isn't muted
