Demonstrate which part of the udev upgrade (not just "I downgraded the package") actually causes the breakage. Network cards are clearly almost all working in jaunty, so the two of you have a unique problem. Since udev isn't involved in network cards at all (they don't have a /dev device node), it's not possible to even begin to debug without further information.
