I've been sitting here thinking about how odd the pattern to my lost files is.
For instance, I haven't lost any file folders that begin with N but have lost
any that begin with 0 (zero). I also have lost all files and folders beginning
with D, including Documents.
It seems to me most likely that the file names are being replaced by something
that just isn't being read.
Very odd.
So anyway, I created a group of files like some of the ones I lost, and tried
to over-write one file called 0805.txt. And this picture shows what happened.
The pop-up that says "This file $^#%.txt already exists, do you want to replace
it?" has the file name in a different set of characters.
??
So at some level the machine has two types of character recognition operating,
and something triggers a switch in the file names from one to the other??
