** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

After an update, my desktop display is stuck at 1152 x 864. My LCD
  monitor's native resolution is 1680 x 1050.

This results in a slightly stretched display which totally ruins photos,
not to mention that the display is of low resolution. I'm running the
  most current Intrepid release.

The Screen Resolution applet shows no options (they are greyed out), and
  xrander does the following:

  holi...@dell:~$ xrandr -s 1680x1050
Size 1680x1050 not found in available modes
  holi...@dell:~$

I tried switching to the fglrx driver, but ATi's drivers apparently
have serious issues with my card and the current x-server. (The
resulting 'Start Ubuntu in Low Resolution' actually yielded a resolution
very close to my monitor's native resolution).

I tried reverting to the previous version of the open source drivers
using 'Force Version' in Synaptic (the ones that shipped with Intrepid
originally), but that didn't work either.

  Versions:

  xserver-xorg-ati version: 1:6.9.0+git20081003.f9826a56-0ubuntu2.1
  xserver-xorg-ati-radeon version: 1:6.9.0+git20081003.f9826a56-0ubuntu2.1
  xserver-xorg-core: 2:1.5.2-2ubuntu3
  xorg: 1:7.4~5ubuntu3
