What version of Kubuntu are you using?
What version of Kontact/KDE? You can get this by looking under Help > About
Kontact
Could you please install the package kdepim-dbg and attach the backtrace from
the next crash you get. This will fill in all the lines saying 'no debugging
symbols' found at the top of the backtrace
