Public bug reported:
Ubuntu Dapper 6.06, Ubuntu kernel 2.6.15-26
IBM Thinkpad T21, 800MHz Pentium III, 20GB HD, 128MB RAM
Not docked, no WiFi card inserted, no cables or connectors attached
Suspend / Hibernate using the Gnome's Logout dialog.
Suspend: Some HD activity, the moon symbol at the base of the display
starts blinking. Display goes dark, backlight still on. The HD stops,
display backlight turns off, moon symbol stays lighted. Nothing will
wake the machine up. Pressing the power button for about five seconds
will "turn it off" - i.e. the indicator lights at the base of the
display go dark. After this, only removing the battery and disconnecting
the AC adapter will restore the machine to a state where it can be
booted again.
Hibernate, 1st attempt: HD activity, moon symbol starts blinking as
display goes black, backlight still on. About five seconds pass. Display
backlight turns off for two seconds, then back on. Moon symbol stops
blinking, screen saver appears. After a couple of seconds asks for a
password, and when supplied with the correct password, returns to
desktop and works as if nothing had happened.
Hibernate, 2nd attempt immediately after the first one: Moon symbol
starts blinking immediately. HD activity for some seconds, display
backlight turns off, HD stays on (spinning) indefinitely. No activity
will wake the machine up. Pressing the power button turns the machine
off (HD stops and indicator lights go dark), and pressing it again turns
the machine on in a normal fashion.
Hibernate, 3rd attempt (after reboot): Same as 1st, but no screen saver
active. Instead, returns directly to the desktop.
After a reboot, trying to hibernate or suspend both result in screen
going black and the screensaver password prompt appearing immediately.
