I am not sure , what cause it but with my b43 drivers in ubuntu 9.04 , I got a message about b43 not wanting to load wireless info etc , so I could not connect, then I fix my problem by using remastersys program, and making a dist iso file with the remastersys backup program , installed it into a 4GB usb drive using create a usb startup disk option , and reboot into it and reinstalled it seemed it fix the b43 driver not wanting to load with it before this was done it seemed to fix the wireless problem I was having with network-manager-gnome app, I don't know if that might fix your problem too maybe?
