Have same problem, with Ubuntu 8.10 and pulseaudio 0.9.10-2ubuntu9.2 Looking through the releases of pulseaudio I see the following : "what's up next with PulseAudio's new glitch-free playback model" and this starting with pulseaudio 0.9.11
