Lupine, Thanks for your response. I have an update to this bug, and will investigate it a little further as you suggest.
First, using nautilus to navigate to smb:/// returns nothing, nor does smbtree. HOWEVER, when I specify the location like: smb://jermdell/, I find the network accessible. Printers are unaccessible unless I plug int, probably due to the their reliance on access to the root level of the network. So, this is a bug related to access to root level of a network through smbtree.
