THIS IS MY SOLUTION PLEASE READ For my colorado direct I loaded primaxscan on Synaptic.
Next I went to Terminal and did something naughty, I entered sudo xsane you get the following message: (See atachment) Click on "Continue at your own risk" it then finds the scanner and works perfectly.
