Hi. This is for Chris Coulsdon.
Thank you! When you wrote - To fix the problem, please follow the instructions in the error message (run "sudo dpkg --configure -a").you solved my problem! The error message actually said - (run "dpkg --configure -a").- nothing about "sudo". For a complete newcomer to Ubuntu, this is unhelpful, because if you don't type "sudo" first, nothing happens. My problem ocurred when I tried to install 180 updates on Intrepid. I had left updating for some time after installing Ubuntu and I guess the number had mounted up. Realising that the updates were taking a long time to install, I decided to leave the machine running overnight. The following morning I found that the bar had not moved and was stuck at about 20% so I did a restart and then got the error message when I tried to update again.. I think I could get to like Ubuntu - but it isn't for the faint hearted! Best regards, Mike. -- E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
