Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager
I have a Dell Latitude D630 laptop running Ubuntu 8.10. When I was running 8.04 I had no problem connecting to the internet via my work's ADSL line. I just plugged it in and that was it. My laptop has a internal 3G card and since 8.10 it is a dream to connect via 3G, but not with ADSL. When I plug it in the network manager starts doing it's thing, and then says it is connected to "auto eth0" but I can not ping the router, Google, or anything. I've tried to get help in forums and in #ubuntu, but couldn't get it sorted out. I've also filled a bug report before, but I might have not done it properly. It also seems like I'm not the only one having this problem. If you need any information or reports, please ask? I would really like this being sorted out as it has been going on since installing Ibex at the end of October 2008. Here are some outputs that I hope will help: r...@crownambassador-laptop:~# lsmod Module Size Used by tg3 129924 0 ipv6 263972 10 af_packet 25728 4 i915 38144 2 drm 86056 3 i915 binfmt_misc 16904 1 sco 18308 2 rfcomm 44432 2 bridge 56980 0 stp 10628 1 bridge bnep 20480 2 l2cap 30464 16 rfcomm,bnep vboxnetflt 93832 0 vboxdrv 120360 1 vboxnetflt ppdev 15620 0 acpi_cpufreq 15500 1 cpufreq_powersave 9856 0 cpufreq_conservative 14600 0 cpufreq_userspace 11396 0 cpufreq_ondemand 14988 1 cpufreq_stats 13188 0 freq_table 12672 3 acpi_cpufreq,cpufreq_ondemand,cpufreq_stats pci_slot 12552 0 sbs 19464 0 sbshc 13440 1 sbs container 11520 0 iptable_filter 10752 0 ip_tables 19600 1 iptable_filter x_tables 22916 1 ip_tables sbp2 29324 0 parport_pc 39204 0 lp 17156 0 parport 42604 3 ppdev,parport_pc,lp joydev 18368 0 pcmcia 43052 0 snd_hda_intel 381488 3 dcdbas 15008 0 snd_pcm_oss 46848 0 snd_mixer_oss 22784 1 snd_pcm_oss snd_pcm 83204 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm_oss psmouse 45200 0 snd_seq_dummy 10884 0 serio_raw 13444 0 arc4 9984 2 evdev 17696 15 pcspkr 10624 0 ecb 10880 2 crypto_blkcipher 25476 1 ecb snd_seq_oss 38528 0 btusb 19736 3 option 23428 0 iwl3945 98804 0 usbserial 39528 1 option rfkill 17176 2 iwl3945 bluetooth 61924 11 sco,rfcomm,bnep,l2cap,btusb snd_seq_midi 14336 0 snd_rawmidi 29824 1 snd_seq_midi snd_seq_midi_event 15232 2 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi mac80211 216820 1 iwl3945 led_class 12164 1 iwl3945 snd_seq 57776 6 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi,snd_seq_midi_event yenta_socket 31756 1 cfg80211 32392 2 iwl3945,mac80211 rsrc_nonstatic 19072 1 yenta_socket snd_timer 29960 2 snd_pcm,snd_seq snd_seq_device 15116 5 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq pcmcia_core 43412 3 pcmcia,yenta_socket,rsrc_nonstatic video 25104 0 output 11008 1 video snd 63268 15 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_seq_oss,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq,snd_timer,snd_seq_device intel_agp 33724 1 wmi 14504 0 button 14224 0 battery 18436 0 soundcore 15328 1 snd ac 12292 0 iTCO_wdt 18596 0 iTCO_vendor_support 11652 1 iTCO_wdt snd_page_alloc 16136 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm shpchp 37908 0 pci_hotplug 35236 1 shpchp agpgart 42184 3 drm,intel_agp ext3 133384 1 jbd 55444 1 ext3 mbcache 16004 1 ext3 usbhid 35840 0 hid 50560 1 usbhid sd_mod 42264 3 crc_t10dif 9984 1 sd_mod sr_mod 22212 0 cdrom 43168 1 sr_mod sg 39732 0 pata_acpi 12160 0 ata_piix 24580 2 ata_generic 12932 0 libata 177312 3 pata_acpi,ata_piix,ata_generic scsi_mod 155212 5 sbp2,sd_mod,sr_mod,sg,libata ohci1394 37936 0 ieee1394 96324 2 sbp2,ohci1394 libphy 27392 1 tg3 ehci_hcd 43276 0 uhci_hcd 30736 0 usbcore 148848 7 btusb,option,usbserial,usbhid,ehci_hcd,uhci_hcd dock 16656 1 libata thermal 23708 0 processor 42156 4 acpi_cpufreq,thermal fan 12548 0 fbcon 47648 0 tileblit 10880 1 fbcon font 16512 1 fbcon bitblit 13824 1 fbcon softcursor 9984 1 bitblit fuse 60828 3 r...@crownambassador-laptop:~# dmesg | tail [ 195.289192] tg3 0000:09:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 17 (level, low) -> IRQ 17 [ 195.289224] tg3 0000:09:00.0: setting latency timer to 64 [ 195.311703] eth0: Tigon3 [partno(BCM95755m) rev a002 PHY(5755)] (PCI Express) 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet 00:1c:23:18:d4:0d [ 195.311722] eth0: RXcsums[1] LinkChgREG[0] MIirq[0] ASF[0] WireSpeed[1] TSOcap[1] [ 195.311729] eth0: dma_rwctrl[76180000] dma_mask[64-bit] [ 199.430497] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready [ 211.339296] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready [ 212.937589] tg3: eth0: Link is up at 100 Mbps, full duplex.
