After running Fedora for a while and having returned to Ubuntu now, I cannot reproduce this bug. It might be corelated with having upgraded to a newer xserver-xorg-ati (using Tormod Volden's PPA), which I did _not_ do this time. However, as the bug still appears to some users, this bug report remains valid (IMHO).
