As a related issue: I know that /etc/cron.daily/apt is trying to get http proxy information when it does this, but there really ought to be a mechanism that doesn't involve becoming a standard user to get this information. It's bad to assume that the first account has this information. It's also bad to become a user account, if that can be avoided. Does apt have its own proxy settings?
