Public bug reported:

while booting my installed Ubuntu 8.10 x 64 Desktop edition. I get this
error message some times.

Gave up waiting for root device. Commom problems:
 - Boot args (cat /proc/cmline)
   - Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?)
   - Check root= (did the system wait for the right device?)
 - Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev)
ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/ba4cb0db-871a-49f9-ace7-d2193e4dab39 does not exist. 
Dropping to a shell!
