One note - after I try to shut down or log out from X, the screen goes
into an unsupported mode - the "Video mode not supported" message pops
up on the Samsung display. So I end by having to reset the cpu to
restart and remove the CD.

A note about the 848x600 mode - initially, the left side of the screen
window is aligned with the left side of the monitor's screen. If I
move the mouse to the right edge, all the virtual pixels shift to the
left, so they are now NOT aligned with actual pixels, and all the
pixels are interpolated and blurry.
