Good afternoon, I just did some testing, and it appears to me, that the linspire server just doesn't emit the correct mimetype. This is the real cause of this problem, because Konqueror, or rather the underlying HTTP process relies only on the mimetype to find the correct application to open a file. In this case the mimetype is the default mimetype for everything on a web server (text/plain), which makes Konqueror suggest to open it as a text file.
You can see the same result if you run xdg-open http://images.linspire.com/file_types/v10_transition.mp4 which also uses mimetype to open that file, and also uses the default text editor rather than a media player. When you run wget http://images.linspire.com/file_types/v10_transition.mp4 you will notice that the server indeed emits a wrong mimetype. >From my point of view this really ought to be fixed on the linspire servers rather than in Konqueror, so I'll close this bug as invalid, because basically Konqueror does exactly what it was meant to do - start the mimetype's appropriate application. You probably want to report this issue to Linspire. I think they also ship Konqueror as browser on their CDs, so they really should fix it (at least once they start using KDE 4). Thank you for your report nonethless. Have a nice day :-) ** Changed in: kdebase (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- mp4 linspire test tries to open as "text file" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/306249 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
