I finally got around to hooking up a serial console so that I could
record the error messages that flash by on the console. I attach the
output from one "Eeek!" incident.

What happened here was: I booted the computer and logged in as usual,
but instead of my usual XFCE desktop with icons and wallpaper I saw just
a grey desktop with the XFCE panels top and bottom. I clicked the Quit
icon on the top panel and chose "Log out" and the result was what you
see in the attachment.

There are two files in the attached archive. Between these two I
stupidly pressed CTRL-ALT-DEL on the wrong machine by accident (I
pressed it on the machine I was logging from, not the machine with the
problem), so I missed some of the error messages that were continually
flashing by on screen while the machine running minicom rebooted. The
second file is what I managed to capture after it rebooted.
